RINCHEN RILBU ANNOUNCEMENT

Rin-chen Ril-bu or Precious Pill is a special and significant traditional medical formulation of Sowa Rigpa or the knowledge of healing practiced in Tibet.  The origin and formulation of this component has been validated from Gyu-shi, the main treatise of Tibetan medicine.  The practice of this formulation is approximately 1200 years old and it has been preserved and is practiced till now in exile in India.  His Holiness the Dalai Lama's utmost priority was to revive and promote the traditional cultures of Tibet and hence, established Tibetan Medical and Astro. Institute in Dharamsala on 23 March 1961 to preserve the traditional Tibetan Medicine and Astrology in exile and has completed 50 years of its establishment in 2011.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama recommended to commence on the preparation of precious pills and so in 1982, the Senior Personal Physician of H.H. the Dalai Lama, late Dr. Tenzin Choedrak,  initiated the practice of this sacred formulation in Dharamsala, funded from His Holiness office and the legacy of this sacred formulation was passed on to the future generations.  Since then this sacred formulation has been prepared five times in exile. Men-Tsee-Khang has gained the expertise, experience and resource in preparing this sacred formulation retaining its quality and potency according to the traditional medical text Gyu-shi

The preparation of precious pill is a complex process which needs great expertise, practice, skilled human resource and precious components or ingredients.  It takes three to four months duration and requires 20 to 30 skilled human resources to prepare this formulation. Hence, it is difficult for a local enterprise to make and prepare such precious pills.  It is specifically difficult and complex to prepare Rinchen Dangjor Rilnag Chenmo and Rinchen Ratna Samphel (Mutik Dunchu).  At present Men-Tsee-Khang prepares eight different kinds of precious pills namely Rinchen Dangjor Rilnag Chenmo, Rinchen Ratna Samphel (Mutik Dunchu), Rinchen Tsajor Chenmo, Rinchen Mangjor Chenmo, Rinchen Tso-tru Dashel, Rinchen Yu-nying 25, Rinchen Chakril Chenmo and Rinchen Jumar 25.

High standard is maintained in the usage of pure and proper ingredients, quality, and formulations.  Besides, the preservation process, blessing pills and medicine Buddha ritual are also done according to medical tradition passed on through ages and hence, the authenticity of potency and efficacy of the Rinchen Rilbu produced by Men-Tsee-Khang is maintained. In addition, the packaging of the pill has undergone changes over the years integrating traditional and modern ideas.  Tibetan Medical & Astro.Institute of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a Cultural, Educational and Charitable Institute registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860 and so the cost of pills is kept low to make it accessible to all the suffering beings.

The manual packing of the pills has its disadvantages in providing hygienic conditions.  Other factors like climatic changes during the monsoon season leading to elevation of moisture and humidity which is bad for efficient storage.  After the pill is manufactured, the manual process of packaging takes a great deal of time in wrapping the silk cloth, putting each wrapped pill in plastic containers, sticking the logo on the container etc.  However, Men-Tsee-Khang took a huge step forward in replacing manual packing with advanced technology in packing due to its time consumption and unhygienic conditions of using manual labor.  Various researches has been done for a number of years in the past for the outcome of today's Rinchen Rilbu packaging which is the most valuable product of experts scientifically.

Blister Packing Machine was introduced in the Pharmaceutical Department for packing the precious pills so that counterfeiting of precious pills would be difficult.  It also adheres to the norms of GMP (good manufacturing process).  This announcement is specially made to ensure that, the precious pill in the new packaging is genuine as the previous one in terms of its potency, composition, preservation process and spiritually blessed medicine.
