The centenary event continued with singing of the Tibetan and Indian national anthem, followed by the recitation of Yuthok prayer and serving of ceremonial tea and sweetened rice. A special song composed for the very occasion was sung by the staff, wagers and students of Men-Tsee-Khang.

The Director of Men-Tsee-Khang, Mr. Tashi Tsering Phuri thanked His Holiness for his gracious presence on this special occasion. He greeted all the dignitaries, guest, and public and delivered the centenary celebration speech.  On the occasion of the 55th Anniversary, the Director said that "we rejoice because we did our best to achieve a little, and at the same time we re-dedicate our services, firmly believing in a noble goal to benefit humanity".  He took this moment to thank the staff, students and wagers for their collective effort.

He spoke in brief about the problems faced when Men-Tsee-Khang first started in 1961 and its development stages.  He said that "at a time when holistic healing system is receiving more and more appreciation globally, we should be happy that the Tibetan Medical tradition stands out as one of the well-integrated healing systems".

Shri. Thakur Singh Bharmouri speaking on the occasion said it gives him great pleasure to be here today with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and participate in the Men-Tsee-Khang celebration. “Today Tibetan medicine is well known not only in India but in many countries”.  This is due to the vision of His Holiness and congratulated the members of Men-Tsee-Khang.  He recalled the first time he came to Dharamsala in 1982, visited Dr. Yeshi Dhonden, received treatment from him and got relieved.  He said that Tibetan medical treatment was effective, which was introduced in Himachal and to the rest of the world.

He informed that he will take the suggestion of His Holiness to host an international seminar where all types of healing systems like Tibetan, Irani, Yunani, Ayurveda will come together. Himachal Pradesh is rich in medicinal herbs and we should exercise our efforts to utilize judiciously what Mother Nature has provided to benefit humanity.

Shri. Karan Singh said it is a pleasure and an honour to be here in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on this occasion. He said that he went through the literature and was greatly impressed with Tibetan medicine.  His government is interested to attach Tibetan medicine with Ayurveda.

"It is a privilege to be here and speak in front of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  His Holiness has transformed the minds of the people of the Himalayan region and the people of the world through his message of love and compassion" said Shri. Ravi Thakur.  He said that the Ayurveda Minister is persistent to develop Men-Tsee-Khang and Sowa Rigpa and doing his level best to open an outlet in Shimla and Delhi, while the Forest Minister consented 23 percent of land to develop and grow herbal plants in Lahaul Spiti”.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama then addressed the gathering by greeting all who were present. He informed that today is a day of remembrance for the contribution of the 13th Dalai Lama in establishing Lhasa Men-Tsee-Khang and the 5th Dalai Lama for setting up the Chagpori Medical College.  He said that everyone has worked hard with determination in the initial stages starting from a humble beginning which has brought results now.  "Tibet is recognized today with its own language which is the medium for the preservation of our rich culture described in terms of the five major and five minor sciences".

Our medical tradition is an incorporation of Tibetan, Ayurveda, Chinese, and Yunani systems. His Holiness stressed that our traditional healing practitioners should meet with practitioners of these traditions, discuss and exchange views, take other findings into account, and find out what we can contribute and learn from them.  For critical and acute ailments allopathic treatment is often more suitable, but in the long term Tibetan medicine has great healing qualities. His Holiness advised that “you should not carry on as you are and be satisfied with it, but to discuss, examine according to scientific analysis, and find ways to resolve them and advance forward".
