Centenary Celebration held at Darjeeling branch clinic
Darjeeling Branch Clinic, Men-Tsee-Khang celebrated its centenary event on 23 March 2016 held in the Darjeeling Tibetan community hall at 10 a.m. The Tibetan welfare officer was the chief guest and the other guests included community leaders of different Nongovernmental organisations, abbot and directors of different monasteries. Around 90 people came to grace the occasion which was indeed a great inspiration.
The function began with the lighting of butter lamp and offering khatas (traditional scarf) to the portrait of H.H. THE DALAI LAMA by the chief guest, guests and the people. After that, a minute of silence was observed to honour and remember our martyrs Brothers and Sisters who had bravely sacrificed their precious life to the cause of our country.
Tea, sweetened rice and sweets were served to all gathered. Then Dr. Lobsang Thupten, chief resident doctor, Darjeeling clinic gave a brief introduction of Men-Tsee-Khang, its various departments, how it functions, and health care service to the people and the importance of the day. He spoke in detail about the founding of the Darjeeling clinic, its staff and their duties, and briefly elaborated the 11 months report of the clinic for the year.
Mr. Taso an ex-staff and enjoying the facilities of free medicine gave a speech about his experience while working in the institute. He thanked Men-Tsee-Khang for the unconditional and unwavering support in providing free medications to all the poor & needy.
The chief guest spoke about the importance of the institute and its service to the people, the progress and developments and to reach out to more public as well. He said that Men-Tsee-Khang is the only largest organisation which shoulders lots of social work and service to the suffering people which is praise worthy. He wished for the successful centenary celebrations.
Ms. Dechen Lhazom on behalf of Darjeeling clinic gave a thank you speech to all the guest and audience for gracing the occasion. Lastly, recitation of prayer for the prosperity of Tibetan medicine and astro-science, and pamphlets were distributed.
Darjeeling Men-Tsee-Khang would like to convey heartiest gratitude and thanks to the Tibetan welfare office for providing free community hall, the Rangzen Tsokchung, Snow Lion Hotel, Mr. Wangdue, Mrs Pema Choedon and Mrs. Choesang for their constant support and all the volunteers in making this event successful.
