Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre (MTK CC) in association with Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre (TPHCC) organized the World AIDS day on 1 December, 2016 at Choglamsar Leh, Ladakh. The Main objective was to educate the people about HIV and STD infection and the understanding of its causes and preventive method.

Pamphlets, Red ribbon - symbol for solidarity for HIV- positive patient, chart displaying its causes and also the knowledge about the preventive measures were distributed to the audience.

Mrs. Tsering Dolkar, Secretary to Representative of Sonamling Tibetan settlement graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other special guests included Mr. Pema Sangpo, Secretary to Chief Justice Commission and Mr. Karma Gendun, Executive Secretary to TPHCC.

The programme started with a welcome speech by Mr. Karma Gedun who also emphasized on educating public on how to counteract the HIV disease. The presentation was given by Mrs. Dolma Yangchen, TPHCC Nurse about the transmittable diseases and its causes. Dr. Thinley Namgyal of Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre strongly called out the general public to give special attention to the victims and treat them with love and respect. Most of these patient feel isolated due to the social stigma among the society about them which destroy and imbalance their mental and physical motivation of healing the disease.  

At the end, Mr. Rinzin Dorjee staff of our centre gave vote of thanks to the audience. Around 600 people gathered to witness the World AIDS day at Leh, Ladakh.
The AIDS awareness programme was a successful drive by the district administration to organize the event in various villages to make Leh, Ladakh free of AIDS.
